(Closer), "Concept: A condemned cathedral becomes a living organism of obsession, where flesh and machinery merge in a fever dream of desire, shame, and transcendence.
We descend into a world where Victorian anatomical theaters collide with industrial rot â a place where the sacred and profane share the same pulse. The visual language borrows from Jan Å vankmajer's stop-motion nightmares and Joel-Peter Witkin's transgressive still lifes, all bathed in amber formaldehyde light. The emotional arc moves from clinical detachment through escalating visceral hunger to a final, devastating moment of spiritual collapse â the realization that closeness to God and closeness to destruction are the same gesture.
SCENE 1: "THE SPECIMEN" â Pulsing synth intro
- Location: A flooded sub-basement laboratory, water black as oil, reflecting rows of specimen jars containing mechanical hearts that beat in sync with the kick drum
- Action: Camera pushes slowly through the jars on a dolly track submerged just below the waterline. A figure sits motionless in a rusted dental chair at the far end, head tilted back, mouth open. Tiny clockwork moths emerge from between his lips one by one.
- Visual key: Dread dressed as curiosity â the audience leans in before they know they should look away
SCENE 2: "THE CATALOG" â First verse
- Location: A circular room whose walls are covered floor-to-ceiling with pinned Rorschach blots that, on closer inspection, are made from real organic material â pressed flowers fused with x-ray film
- Action: The figure (Trent) walks the perimeter, dragging one hand along the wall. Each blot he touches animates â blooming, writhing, decaying in two-second cycles. His reflection in a cracked standing mirror moves half a beat behind him, mouthing different words. Camera orbits him in the opposite direction of his walking, creating a nauseating spiral.
- Visual key: The feeling of cataloging your own sickness and finding it beautiful
SCENE 3: "THE ENGINE" â Pre-chorus build
- Location: A cathedral nave where every pew has been replaced by industrial sewing machines stitching endlessly into nothing, their needles punching through bare wood
- Action: Trent stands at the altar, arms outstretched. The sewing machines accelerate with the tempo. Thread begins to unspool upward defying gravity, weaving itself into the vague shape of a human body suspended above him â a marionette with no puppeteer. Stop-motion cuts: a pig's heart placed on a scale opposite a rusted gear. They balance perfectly.
- Visual key: Worship as mechanism â devotion that has forgotten its object
SCENE 4: "THE COLLISION" â Chorus
- Location: The cathedral collapses inward to become a tight, pulsing corridor of raw meat and copper pipe, walls contracting and expanding like a breathing throat
- Action: Handheld camera chases Trent as he runs through this living hallway. The walls secrete black honey. He slams his palms against them and they yield like skin."
